Named for Rowland H. Macy, the gastropub and adjacent Airstream-style food trailer Rollie’s
pay homage to Macy’s founder

(NEW YORK, December 3, 2015)  Nick Valenti and Patina Restaurant Group debut two exciting new dining destinations at one below at Macy’s Herald Square this holiday season, following the success of Stella 34 Trattoria.  Rowland’s Bar and Grill will serve modern American gastropub cuisine in an atmosphere inspired by turn of the century New York.  Named for Macy’s founder Rowland Hussey (R.H.) Macy, the restaurant builds upon his magnanimous character.  R.H. Macy was born on Nantucket, and Rowland’s pays tribute to that heritage with seafood specialties including Smoked Fish Chowder and Sea Bream with Parsley Salsa Verde. Also featured is American fare popular in New York since the 1850s, when Macy moved to the city and established his dry goods business.  Dishes include House-Smoked Pastrami, Potato and Leek Comté Gratin, Turkey Stack for Two, and the Rollie’s Burger. Designed by David Shea, Rowland’s has a long bar lit by lamplight along one side, with warm wood detail, brick walls, an open kitchen, and inviting feel.

Chef Street brings the popular food truck trend indoors, with four chef-driven, fast-casual dining concepts within Airstream-style trailers: Taquitoria, Crumb on Parchment, Tabo Noodles, and Rollie’s.  The striking space, where cooks in each trailer prepare the food fresh to order, evokes a modern vintage style.  Each Airstream features a menu by a different chef: Taquitoria features San Diego-style rolled taco taquitos by Marc Forgione, Crumb on Parchment offers market-fresh salads and grain bowls by Michelle Bernstein, Tabo Noodles is Chef Takashi Yagihashi’s ramen concept, and Rollie’s (R.H. Macy’s nickname) offers burgers, breakfast sandwiches, and brats, all “on a roll.”  Mark Forgione, Takashi Yagihashi and Michelle Bernstein, part of Macy’s esteemed Culinary Council, collaborated with Patina in bringing their unique style to this new food concept for the flagship. There is also a quick “grab & go” take-away area with fresh sandwiches, salads and pastries. Executive Chef Jarett Appell and Chef de Cuisine Jimmy Choe oversee the culinary programs for both Rowland’s and Chef Street.

Part of Macy’s $400 million renovation of the historic Herald Square flagship, Rowland’s and Chef Street reside in the new one below, formerly the home of the Macy’s Cellar, which has been redesigned into a destination for millennials.  Patina Restaurant Group, which has a history with the store that goes back decades, also operates Stella 34 Trattoria and Vivoli il Gelato on the sixth floor, with views of the Empire State Building through stunning 12-foot bay windows.

Both Rowland’s and Chef Street are scheduled to open in early December.  Rowland’s will serve all-day lunch, weekend brunch and dinner service seven days a week from 11 am- 9:30 pm. Chef Street will offer all-day breakfast, lunch and dinner service seven days a week from 9 am- 10 pm.  For more information visit www.rowlandsnyc.com and www.chefstreetnyc.com and to make Rowland’s reservations, call (212) 868-3001.
